Are you excited for fall? Before the weather turns too cold, let’s take a look at some beneficial life adjustments you may want to adopt as we transition into a new season.

With fresh fall colors, new foods to try, and fun holidays around the corner, it’s no wonder fall is a favorite season of many. However, you probably haven’t forgotten some less fun things that come with fall: increased allergies, a higher chance of getting sick, shorter daylight hours, and a change in routine.

Adjusting your lifestyle or habits can be a great way to lean into autumn and embrace the coming months. Fall is the perfect season for a fresh start. Making small lifestyle adjustments for fall is a great way to ensure that you feel your best this season.

Let’s take a look at some healthy and fun ways to adjust your lifestyle for the fall season.

Clean up your morning rituals

With the turn of the seasons, now is a great time to reevaluate your morning routine. If you’ve fallen off track on some habits, use this time as a fresh start. Perhaps now is a great time to incorporate something new into your morning routine.

It’s often helpful to write down your morning rituals to help you get on track. Some people find bullet journaling useful, so that they can record or cross off items on their routine as they do them.

Here are some examples of new rituals you can explore in your new morning routine:

  • Reading
  • Meditation
  • Journaling
  • Drinking a glass of warm lemon water
  • Going for a brisk morning walk outdoors
  • Waking up at the same time every day

There are immense benefits to sticking to a morning routine that you love. It helps set the tone for your day. It also tells your body when it’s time to wake up and be productive. The rituals you incorporate into your morning routine should help you create a sense of calm, ease, or joy.

Adjust your sleeping schedule

Fall days start growing a little shorter as we approach daylight savings. Your body may do better when you adjust your sleep schedule to fit the changing daylight hours properly. Moving into the shorter days, your body might require more sleep. Because it’s a little darker, try going to sleep a little earlier. You may find yourself naturally getting tired earlier.

As we approach daylight savings, start slowly adjusting your new bedtime a week in advance so that your system isn’t shocked when we turn our clocks forward. You can help your body adjust to this change by cutting back on caffeine after noon, avoiding electronics an hour before bed, and sticking to your nighttime routine.

Switch up your workouts

Fall is a great time to switch up your workout routine. Though you might have your favorite ways of exercise, it’s a good idea to try new things, so your body keeps adapting. With the change of seasons, why not try a new form of exercise?

Try incorporating workouts with grounding effects into your routine. With the change of colors and temperature, now is a great time to be outside. Take a walk or go on a hike to enjoy the fall foliage.

It’s a good idea to switch up your workouts with the season to improve the mind-body connection. If you’re looking for inspiration, you can check out some of our free online workout classes.

Integrate seasonal foods

With harvest season in full swing, take advantage of the produce you’ll have available to you.

Try incorporating foods like these into your diet:

  • Root vegetables (carrots, beets, parsnips)
  • Squash
  • Celery
  • Apples
  • Pumpkin
  • Cabbage

These foods are so versatile. You’ll be able to explore a variety of recipes while taking advantage of the fall season. You can use pumpkin to make your own pumpkin lattes or pumpkin oatmeal for breakfast. Roasting chopped apples with cinnamon is also a quick snack to cook on the stovetop.

With the drop in temperature, try making soups and stews to keep the chill at bay. Learning how to cook fall vegetables will keep your taste buds and stomach happy.

Shift your hobbies or try something new!

Hobbies are essential for your overall well-being. They allow you to be creative and have fun. It’s a meaningful way to relax, recharge, and get inspired.

If you’re feeling the need to switch up some of your hobbies, fall is a great time to try something new, especially since your summer hobbies might be a little hard to maintain—like going to the pool or sailing.

Here are some new fall hobbies you can try:

  • Hiking in the fall foliage
  • Football – real and fantasy
  • Rock climbing
  • Apple or pumpkin picking
  • Horseback riding
  • Running a 5k
  • Learning to cook fall recipes
  • Biking
  • Camping

Grab a friend or go solo on some of these hobbies. With the return of the school year, you could also find classes in your area to help you learn a new skill or activity.

I love getting outside to go hiking and watching the leaves change color! It’s a good excuse to get outside with my family and feel refreshed.
