Ayurveda is the traditional medicine and one of the oldest forms of whole body healing. Originating in India, this form of prevention and treatment has been practiced for at least 5000 years. Ayurveda is built on the foundation of understanding and examining the uniqueness of the individual. It is a study that helps others become familiar with their own biodiversity and create a lifestyle that will support them in thriving.

Ayurveda is the science of life, literally translated from the Sanskrit word Ayus (life) and Veda (knowledge). Stemming from ancient Vedic culture it is now known as the “mother of healing.” It is a personalized form of medicine that specializes in strengthening an individual’s mind, body and spirit. We can use every part of this knowledge to help support our senses, diet, movement, behavior, relationships, routine and an overall greater understanding to ourselves. With this awareness we can cultivate, vitality, longevity, grace, and apply it to our own well-being.

When our energy is out of balance that is when we feel our body’s at dis-ease. By adjusting the body’s energy we can bring it back to a state of health. Ayurveda understands an individual is made up of three pillars that are supported by the five elements. The pillars are referred to as doshas and each dosha is made up of the elements in nature. Vata (air and ether) manages all movements in the body. Pitta (fire and water) governs digestion. Kapha (water and earth) promotes structure and connectedness

If an imbalance does arise, Ayurveda has specific diagnostics to identify the root of the ailment. The treatment plan includes implementation of herbs, bodywork and alternatives to diet and lifestyle. Ayurveda utilizes it’s comprehension of the Doshas to keep the body and mind in quality health.
