What is the key to success?

Great communication skills are one of the biggest keys to success. Whether you communicate verbally or written, it is imperative that you communicate clearly and concisely. This establishes yourself as an authority who is worthy of great opportunities. It also eliminates time-consuming confusion and wasted energy from an unclear message.

If you can take communication one step further and distill complex topics into simple, applicable information, you’ll assure those around you that you are knowledgeable and capable of meaningful tasks. It is in the challenges of those important tasks where success is waiting for you.

What makes a great dealmaker?

To become a great dealmaker and master negotiator, give more value than you take. While you may think that’s counterintuitive –
after all, shouldn’t you try to land the best/biggest deal for yourself? – providing exceptional value to others builds their trust and
loyalty, allowing you to ask for even more from them later on.

For example, instead of doing the bare minimum at your firm, seek out new and better investments to save the firm money and make them more money. Sure, you have to put in extra work on your end – going above and beyond your pay grade – but
creating immense value for your firm will unlock even better opportunity and wealth for you down the line.

How do I fundraise?

Use great interpersonal and customer service skills to build trusting relationships with investors. Reframe your mindset to think like an investor. What would make you more comfortable and willing to invest more and more money?

Investors are looking for competence, confidence, authority, and of course profitability. But notice this: Only one of those things has anything to do with the investment itself. The rest are qualities you must exude to your investors.

Always convey commitment towards their success. Sure, you have your own goals, but prioritize their needs, goals, and hesitations before your own. That will give them confidence in your ability to yield a better return than the next fund.

I’m drowning in work. How do I spend more time with my family?

Include your family into other areas of your life. Mesh your needs and wants together to really “have it all.

For example, if you need to go shopping, bring your wife. If you need to exercise, include your son. If you’re running a business, make it a legacy business by including your daughters in the process.

Multitasking makes family time and your to-do list seamless – and probably more interesting – than if you tackled these tasks on your own.

Coaching has been my secret to success, enlightenment, and fulfillment. It has provided me with the accountability to conquer my goals.

I love talking to my coaches about my roadblocks so I can overcome them quickly. In fact, coaching has been so life-changing that I became a coach myself. Sharing my wealth of knowledge has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

How do I stop myself from being biased?

The first step is being aware of the occasions in which you are being biased and what type of cognitive bias you gravitate towards.

Do you tend to favor your in-person team rather than your remote team? Are your limiting beliefs preventing you from engaging in bigger opportunities? Are you agreeable to certain things, simply because it’s easier and requires less energy?

This mindfulness of your actions is just the start. A coach can help you identify and overcome this tendency for good so it won’t hold you back.

My management team has proximity bias. How can I help them overcome it?

Every manager is different, but it is important to first explain to them the concept of proximity bias. Many managers may not even be aware of this bias, let alone attune to the fact that they themselves exhibit this problem.

Emphasize that proximity does not equate to higher quality work or better business outcomes. Although common, proximity bias in management can lead to massive failures and employee dissatisfaction.

Coaching is a great way to help them instill a results-oriented (rather than proximity-oriented) culture. This simple fix can drastically improve corporate culture and the profitability of your business.
