“The Mind is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master.” – Robin S. Sharma
WE CAN WORK OUR MAGIC all along the way of the mental cycle, but before we begin, we need to understand who is in charge. Who will call the shots? We’ve touched on this in the first chapter and throughout the book. Now it’s time to take charge of this process of cause and effect. Let’s dig deeper.
THE CONSCIOUS MIND is our gateway to the outside world. It is the area of the mind referred to as our intellect: the faculty of reasoning and objective understanding. Our conscious mind, via our brain, receives
feedback from the five senses. The subconscious mind, as we shall see, filters this feedback and gives us suggested automatic responses based on stored memories that have been built into our model of the world. We then have the opportunity to consciously decide how to react to these stimuli utilizing our reasoning will and thus, directing the Body and Mind via thoughts (the program) with such reaction.
THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND cannot reason. It blindly accepts whatever has been programmed into it by way of the conscious mind through the senses. It is constantly building up a database of programs into its memory banks that seemingly improve the mental model of the world. It obeys and then executes the program – the subconscious mind is the seat of habit.
