1. Identify and Interrupt Bad Thought Loops

Before you can eliminate negative thought patterns, you must identify and challenge them. For example, if you’re catastrophizing and continually thinking that something terrible will happen, ask yourself: What evidence do I have to support that line of thinking?

2. Keep a Negative Thought Tracker

Using a thought tracker may make recognizing and challenging detrimental thoughts easier. Keep a journal of your unpleasant thoughts as they arise and immediately reframe them.

3. Limit Unpleasant Input

It’s challenging to remain positive when surrounded by negativity. As such, limit negativity from external sources. This may mean reducing your news consumption, unfollowing certain accounts on social media, or avoiding specific people in your life. Replace negatives with positives by following empowering social media accounts, seeking positive relationships, and looking for pleasant news sources.
